VOTE NO on Measure C

Measure C is a political power grab by politicians at City Hall to TAKE AWAY YOUR VOTE in choosing San Bernardino’s City Clerk, City Treasurer and City Attorney.

LESS ACCOUNTABILITY:

Measure C will make city government less accountable to you.  Currently, our elected City Attorney, City Clerk and City Treasurer are directly responsible to the voters.  Under Measure C, they would be appointed by and beholden to City Hall politicians.

NO INDEPENDENCE:

An independent and elected City Clerk protects the integrity of city elections.  An independent and elected City Treasurer protects our city investment funds from being raided by city politicians.  An independent and elected City Attorney acts as a vital check on government corruption.

Measure C would take away these protections and make San Bernardino much more vulnerable to political corruption.

TAXPAYERS OPPOSE:

Measure C because of what it would result in for San Bernardino. Research on government web sites show that most appointed officials receive much higher compensation than most elected officials.

NEIGHBORHOOD LEADERS OPPOSE:

Measure C.   Our Elected City Clerk, City Treasurer and City Attorney must be residents of San Bernardino.  This requirement ensures that these city officials are part of the fabric of our community.

Measure C would eliminate our current residency requirement and allow politicians to appoint non-residents—including outsiders with no connection to our community—to these important city offices.

CITY OF BELL'S EXAMPLE:

The City of Bell was recently exposed for paying outrageously excessive government salaries to their APPOINTED city officials—including more than $800,000 to the City Manager.

By taking away voter choice and reducing public accountability, Measure C would make San Bernardino ripe for the same kind of abuse that occurred in the City of Bell.
